I had always believed that older non-speaking children needed to start producing sounds as soon as possible, or they would miss the critical period for language and never get the chance to speak. So when you shared the case of Teacher Xie's child, I was stunned, and realized I had been making a big mistake. I asked myself: when younger children come to us, I know to build a solid foundation in language comprehension before working on speech sounds, so why was I treating older children differently? I had focused only on seizing the golden window for language, without asking whether my direction was wrong.
